About the club |
Richard Neale first came across Stroud Judo Club in the early eighties when he joined the club run by Cliff McAllister at Stroud Leisure Centre. Richard moved to Surrey and became a full time judo player at the Camberley Judo Club where he trained for eight years under the guidance of Mark Earle. An ankle injury forced Richard into retirement and on returning to Stroud he started a new career teaching judo around the local schools. The original Stroud Club had ceased to operate and realising the need for a local club Richard re-started the Stroud Judo Club in 2004, this time operating out of Archway School. In the summer of 2008 the club relocated to Marling School Sports Hall and has grown significantly to an active membership of around ninety juniors and fourteen seniors. The vast majority of members started at a very young age in the Schools Judo system, later transferring to the club and are now starting to progress up through the grades. Stroud Judo Club feels it has perfected the balance between a friendly, recreational social judo club with a group of youngsters wanting to reach peak performance. Stroud Judo Club also has a totally unique system that can help anyone improve personal performance. Players of all abilities are welcome at our club and we hope to see you on the mat soon! Please take some time to look around our site and hopefully you will find all the information you need. If you have any questions please contact us and we will do our best to help you find what you need. Our mat area is an international competition size of 12m x 12m. |
